Area C

Qalrakh, Area C

Area C is located at the eastern foot of the high mound. Here excavations were only carried out in 2017. The aim of this trench was to test the extent of occupation in this area of Gird-i Qalrakh. However, in a 4.5 x 2 m test trench, mainly debris and alluvial layers were recorded. Only at the eastern end of the section faint remains of a mud-brick wall were uncovered. The date of the wall is still unclear due to the strong mixture of sherds from different periods in Area C. All in all, it seems rather questionable whether the lower town was populated to a larger extent in the later periods.
